Putin Says Russia Is Developing Satellite Network for Drone Control

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia is developing a satellite-based control system for drones, describing it as a key step in strengthening the country’s military and technological capabilities.

Speaking about the project, Putin said the system will rely on a growing constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites designed to provide reliable communications and control for unmanned aerial vehicles.

He also claimed that Russia’s satellite network is “in no way inferior” to SpaceX’s Starlink system and suggested it may even outperform it in certain areas.

The planned satellite constellation is expected to improve drone communications, navigation, and coordination by providing broader coverage and more secure connections during operations.

Starlink, operated by SpaceX, has become one of the world’s largest satellite internet networks and has demonstrated its capabilities in both civilian and military applications, including supporting communications in conflict zones.

While Putin highlighted Russia’s progress, independent experts have not publicly verified his claims that the country’s satellite network matches or exceeds Starlink’s capabilities. Russia continues to expand its space infrastructure as part of broader efforts to modernize its defense and communications systems.
