Prince William is officially richer than King Charles, with new royal accounts revealing the Prince of Wales controls assets worth £1.2 billion through the Duchy of Cornwall.
The figures were published alongside the latest Sovereign Grant accounts, which detail public funding for the Royal Household, and the annual reports for the Duchy of Cornwall and the Duchy of Lancaster.
The accounts show William received a private income of £21.6 million during the 2025 to 2026 financial year from the Duchy of Cornwall, the vast estate he inherited after becoming Prince of Wales.
The disclosures also revealed the future King has paid more than £20 million in tax since taking over the duchy. He paid £8.34 million in income and capital gains tax in 2023 to 2024, followed by £7.76 million in 2024 to 2025.
King Charles, by comparison, was valued at £640 million in the latest Sunday Times Rich List, around half the value of the Duchy of Cornwall estate.
In a move aimed at increasing transparency over royal finances, both the King and Prince William have publicly disclosed details of their private tax payments.
William has also decided to stop personally receiving the controversial £1.5 million annual rent generated by the former Dartmoor Prison site.
From 2026 to 2027, the money will instead be used to create a community regeneration fund to support social, economic and environmental projects in Princetown, the rural community next to the prison.
The prison in Devon has stood empty since July 2024 after dangerous levels of radon gas were discovered in prisoner accommodation.
The Duchy of Cornwall signed a £37 million agreement in 2022 to lease the prison to the Ministry of Justice for 25 years, generating annual rental income of £1.5 million. The estate also has agreements allowing the Ministry of Defence to use parts of Dartmoor for military training.
As Duke of Cornwall, William receives the profits from the estate, which spans more than 51,800 hectares across 19 counties. He became the 25th Duke of Cornwall following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The latest figures also show Kensington Palace has expanded the household supporting William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. Staffing has increased from 68 to 74 employees. Of those, 14.9 per cent are from ethnic minority backgrounds, up from 13.2 per cent a year earlier, while women make up 73 per cent of the workforce
