Four-Month-Old Baby Dies After Alleged Assault at California Daycare

A four-month-old baby girl has died after she was allegedly assaulted at a home daycare in Claremont, California, prompting a murder charge against a 17-year-old suspect.

The infant, identified as Troy May Elaine Cohn, sustained severe injuries during the incident, which occurred on June 29. Police said officers responded to the daycare following reports of a medical emergency and found that the baby had allegedly been thrown to the floor by a juvenile at the residence.

She was initially taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County due to the severity of her injuries. She later died while receiving treatment.

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall. Prosecutors have since charged him with murder. His identity has not been released because he is a minor.

The baby’s parents have alleged that their daughter was left unsupervised with the teenager, whom they claim had been allowed to remain at the daycare despite not being one of the enrolled children.

They believe inadequate supervision contributed to the tragic incident and have called for a full investigation into the daycare’s operations. Authorities have not confirmed why the teenager was at the facility or whether the daycare owner is under investigation.

Police say inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing. The child’s family is also seeking accountability and has launched a fundraising campaign to help cover funeral expenses, medical bills and legal costs as the case proceeds.
