Outrage as Russian Strike Kills Nigerian Medical Student

A wave of grief has followed the death of 23-year-old Nigerian medical student, Marian Nnani, who died from injuries sustained during a Russian airstrike in Ukraine.

The attack occurred in Kharkiv on June 29, just days before Marian was due to graduate from Kharkiv National Medical University. She was seriously injured when Russian forces launched guided aerial bombs on the Kholodnohirskyi district of the city.

Her close friend, 23-year-old Fatima Huseynova, who was also a student at the university, was killed instantly in the same attack. Marian was initially treated in Kharkiv before being transferred to Germany, where she later died despite efforts to save her.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing condolences to her family while others questioned the risks of remaining in Ukraine amid the ongoing war.

Marian was remembered by her university as a bright, hardworking, and compassionate student who excelled academically and participated in international medical internships.
