US President Donald Trump has said his Board of Peace has reached an agreement for the “complete disarmament” of Hamas, as well as other Palestinian militant groups in Gaza. The Trump Board of Peace Hamas disarmament announcement follows negotiations this week between mediating nations Egypt, Qatar and Turkey in Cairo.
Trump hailed the deal as “historic” in a post on his Truth Social platform, calling it a “monumental step toward lasting peace and security.” He said the agreement represents a “major milestone” in implementing his 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza and rebuild the war-torn enclave.
What Trump Says the Deal Involves
“This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks,” Trump said.
He explained that the agreement would be carried out in carefully structured phases. “As disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and the International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza being safe for its residents and its neighbors,” he said. Gaza, which Hamas has governed since 2007, would under this plan have a new government.
Timing and Diplomatic Context
Trump announced the agreement the day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returned to Israel from a visit to the US, during which the two leaders met at the White House. Trump thanked mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey for making what he called “this historic breakthrough possible.”
Negotiators meeting in Cairo on Thursday had reportedly agreed on a 15-point roadmap for Hamas’ disarmament, though amendments to the proposal were still being finalised at the time of Trump’s announcement.
No Independent Confirmation Yet
While Trump has touted the agreement, there has been no official confirmation from Israel or from any of the three mediating nations, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, as of the time of writing. The claim currently rests solely on Trump’s own announcement.
