The German Embassy in Nigeria has warned Nigerians against relying on individuals or businesses claiming to be authorised “visa agents” for information or assistance with German visa applications.
The embassy issued the warning in a statement shared on its official X account on Wednesday, urging prospective applicants to rely solely on information provided through official German government channels.
The mission stressed that it has no partnership with visa agents and that applicants do not need to pay third parties to access information about German visa procedures.
“We do not work with any ‘visa Agents’!” the embassy said.
The embassy also invited Nigerians to share claims or information they may have received from visa agents so that the mission could address and clarify them publicly.
“Tell us some of the things you’ve heard from ‘visa agents’ in the comments, and we’ll answer in upcoming posts,” it added.
According to the embassy, all relevant information on German visa requirements and procedures is available free of charge through its official website.
It urged prospective applicants to consult the platform directly and verify all requirements before submitting applications or making payments.
The warning comes amid concerns over misinformation and possible fraudulent schemes surrounding visa applications, which could leave applicants paying unnecessary fees or falling victim to scams.
The embassy therefore advised Nigerians to verify visa-related information directly through official German government channels and to be cautious of anyone demanding payment for information that is freely available from the mission.
