South Sudanese Couple Win Lottery Jackpot for Second Time in Six Years

A couple who moved to Canada from South Sudan have struck lottery gold for the second time in six years, winning £357,000 with a scratch card that cost just £2.12.

Angelina and Edward Lado’s latest windfall comes after they won £1.33m in another lottery game in 2018, making their second major win an extraordinary turn of fortune.

The couple had relocated to Canada from South Sudan 11 years before their first jackpot, which brought significant changes to their lives.

One of the most personal benefits of their initial win was that it enabled Edward to search for his mother, whom he had been unable to remember.

He eventually traced her to Uganda and hoped to bring her to live with the family.

Reflecting on their latest win, Edward said they had maintained a modest approach to playing the lottery, despite their previous success.

“We play but modestly, especially now, but if you don’t play, you don’t win,” he said.

Edward also recalled his reaction when his wife first informed him that their scratch card had won. He said he initially urged her to calm down so he could verify the result himself.

The couple are now taking time to absorb the news before deciding how to use their latest winnings.

Their second jackpot, coming years after the first, adds another remarkable chapter to a story that began with their move to Canada and saw their first lottery win help reunite Edward with a part of his family history.
