2027: Sanwo-Olu Seeks Continuity as Hamzat Unveils 100 Campaign Promises

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on residents to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 election, saying the state needs continuity to sustain its development programmes.

Sanwo-Olu made the appeal on Friday at the unveiling of Hamzat’s governorship manifesto, titled The Lagos Promise (ÃŒlérí Èkó), and the launch of his campaign theme, Lagos Forward, Together.

The governor described the forthcoming election as an opportunity to consolidate the achievements of the APC administration, complete ongoing projects and address areas requiring improvement.

He argued that continuity should not be mistaken for maintaining the status quo but should involve building on existing foundations while introducing new initiatives.

“Continuity does not mean repeating ourselves. It means finishing what has been started, fixing what is not working, and starting what comes next—in that order and with a clear plan,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor, who disclosed that he had spent 27 years in public service, described Hamzat as a politician familiar with the state’s development priorities and challenges.

He also expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between him and his deputy, saying the proposed transition offered Lagos an opportunity to demonstrate political stability and institutional continuity.

At the event, Hamzat unveiled a seven-pillar manifesto containing 100 pledges, which he described as a social contract between his prospective administration and Lagos residents.

The document, which places particular emphasis on children’s welfare and protection, outlines the policy direction of his proposed government.

Hamzat said the future of Lagos depended on the protection, development and proper upbringing of its younger generation.

“Therefore, our children must be protected. That is why children sit at the heart of my plan,” he said.

He explained that the seven pillars represented by the acronym PROMISE were People First, Renewal, Opportunity, Machinery of Government, Inclusion, Security and Resilience, and Everyday Life.

According to him, the manifesto was deliberately detailed to enable residents to monitor the implementation of its promises and hold his administration accountable if elected.

“A serious promise must answer three questions: Who is it for? Will it be fulfilled? And how can I trust it?” he said.

The APC candidate identified respect, work and truth as the values that would guide his administration, promising transparency, accountability and honesty in governance.

He also pledged to improve healthcare facilities and essential public services while ensuring that development initiatives benefited residents irrespective of ethnicity, gender or place of origin.

Hamzat acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s support for his political ambition, noting that the President wrote the foreword to the manifesto.

Earlier, APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, described the manifesto as a covenant between the party, its candidate and the electorate.

He said the party was confident in Hamzat’s ability to lead the state, pointing to his private-sector experience, public-service record and tenure as deputy governor.

Ojelabi said the outgoing administration had established a development foundation in infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare, housing, technology and economic growth, which the next government was expected to sustain.

Similarly, former Lagos Deputy Governor and representative of the Governors’ Advisory Council (GAC), Sarah Sosan, said Hamzat’s experience as commissioner and deputy governor had equipped him with an understanding of the challenges of governing a rapidly growing megacity.

She urged the APC to preserve the state’s development foundation while correcting areas where improvements were needed.

In his remarks, Director-General of the Hamzat Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said the campaign would focus on policy issues, experience and capacity to deliver rather than personalities or political distractions.

Obanikoro announced Lagos Forward, Together as the campaign slogan and blue as its official colour.

He said the campaign would focus on infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare, security, economic growth and job creation.

He also urged residents to visit www.koh2027.ng for information about Hamzat, his manifesto and campaign activities.
