Court Remands Lagos Man Over Alleged Assault of 18-Year-Old Wife

A magistrate court in Lagos has remanded 32-year-old Emeka Joseph at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over the alleged assault of his 18-year-old wife, Ezaka Chisom Prisellia.

The incident reportedly occurred on Ayomide Street, Isheri-Oshun, where Joseph allegedly pushed and physically assaulted his wife during a confrontation.

Victim Seen with Injuries

A viral video circulating on social media showed Prisellia lying on a hospital bed with visible injuries to her face and body. In the footage, she appeared distressed and was heard pleading with those around her not to have her husband arrested.

Charges Filed

Following public outrage, Joseph was arrested and arraigned before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court on a three-count charge, including:

  • Conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
  • Fighting.
  • Unlawful assault causing bodily harm.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors allege that Joseph unlawfully assaulted his wife, resulting in physical injuries, in violation of relevant provisions of the Laws of Lagos State.

Court Decision

Rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared details of the case, said the court ordered Joseph’s remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, when it is expected to come up for further hearing.

As the matter is before the court, the allegations remain subject to the judicial process, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
