The death toll from the collapse of a three-storey building in the Alakija area of Lagos has risen to eight, while 26 people have been rescued alive, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The building, located on Old Ojo Road near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town, collapsed at about 11:37 a.m. on Thursday, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that as of 4:20 p.m.:
- 8 people have died, including a baby girl.
- 26 people have been rescued alive.
- Search-and-rescue operations are still ongoing, with fears that more victims remain trapped beneath the rubble.

Emergency responders have deployed heavy machinery, including an excavator, to speed up rescue operations.

Authorities believe additional occupants and shop owners who had resumed business before the collapse may still be trapped beneath the debris. Search operations remain active as emergency teams work to locate and rescue any remaining survivors.
