Police in Kenya have arrested seven suspects in connection with the violent attack on supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement during a rally at Keumbu along the Kisii–Keroka Road, while also summoning Zaheer Jhanda for questioning as investigations continue.
The incident occurred on Friday when a convoy led by Edwin Sifuna was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals who hurled stones at vehicles after a peaceful rally. Several vehicles in the convoy sustained damage, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working alongside officers from Keumbu Police Station, initially announced the arrest of three suspects identified as Allan Masese Onyambu, Godffrey Bosire Mokaya and Stanley Okeyo.
Hours later, the National Police Service confirmed that four additional suspects had been apprehended, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.
Authorities also directed MP Zaheer Jhanda to appear before the Kisii County DCI office as part of the ongoing investigation. Police did not disclose the specific reasons for the summons but said inquiries are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Investigators said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the violence.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to prosecuting anyone involved in acts of violence, destruction of property or actions that threaten public safety.
The National Police Service also appealed to members of the public with relevant information to cooperate with investigators, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives, maintaining public order and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
