Kenya has recorded 19 deaths from Mpox since the outbreak was confirmed in the country three months ago, according to the Ministry of Health.
The ministry, in a statement issued on Monday, said 1,298 confirmed cases had been recorded nationwide, with Mombasa accounting for the highest number at 452, followed by Nairobi with 320 cases.
It identified seven counties as high-risk areas because of their location along major transport corridors and proximity to international border crossings.
The high-risk counties include Mombasa, Nairobi, Busia, Makueni, Kiambu, Kilifi and Nakuru, with the outbreak spreading to more than 40 counties.
The ministry warned that Mpox remained a public health threat despite ongoing efforts to contain its spread.
It called for sustained public awareness campaigns, enhanced disease surveillance and intensified screening at border crossings to detect and contain new infections.
The ministry also said it was maintaining surveillance for other infectious diseases, including Ebola.
Although no confirmed case of Ebola has been reported in Kenya, it said preparedness measures had been put in place to respond to suspected cases and prevent the virus from entering the country.
According to the ministry, efforts would continue to strengthen surveillance, vaccination, public awareness and coordination among health authorities as the country works to contain Mpox and prepare for other emerging health threats.
