Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi has called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East, as Israeli military operations continue in Gaza and Lebanon.
Sissi made the call at a joint press conference with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Egyptian leader also reaffirmed Cairo’s opposition to any attempts to undermine Arab countries, stressing Egypt’s solidarity with them.
“I also affirm Egypt’s steadfast stance rejecting any attempts to undermine our sister Arab nations, and our full solidarity with them, rooted in our firm belief in a shared destiny and the interconnectedness of Arab nations,” Sissi said.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday wounded at least nine people and caused extensive damage to buildings in several areas.
Awda Hospital said it received the wounded following an Israeli strike on a house in Nuseirat, in central Gaza.
The Israeli military confirmed carrying out strikes in Nuseirat, the Daraj Tuffah area and the Shati refugee camp.
Footage by the Associated Press showed an Israeli rocket striking the refugee camp, triggering a large explosion and sending debris into the air.
The latest strikes came amid continuing regional tensions and renewed calls for efforts to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
