Nigeria has secured strategic partnerships with United States companies aimed at attracting investment, technology and jobs into the country’s critical minerals sector.
The partnerships involving Promethean Resources, Vermeer Corporation, Renewvia Energy Corporation and Terra Industries are focused on modern mining technology, renewable energy and enhanced security for mining operations.
The agreements are expected to promote technology transfer, local value addition, job creation and sustainable development while deepening economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.
Speaking at the U.S.-Nigeria Strategic Investment Dialogue in New York, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, said Nigeria was committed to turning investment discussions into tangible commercial partnerships.
“Our priority is to translate dialogue and cooperation frameworks into tangible commercial partnerships that advance Nigeria’s industrial ambitions,” Oduwole said.
She said the partnerships involving Promethean, Vermeer, Renewvia and Terra would provide a platform for investment, local value addition and stronger Nigeria-U.S. economic relations.
The initiatives bring together Nigerian mining company Promethean Resources and U.S. partners across three key areas: minerals, infrastructure and security.
Under the proposed collaboration between Vermeer Corporation and Promethean Resources, precision mining equipment would be deployed across Promethean’s mineral portfolio, including iron ore, tin, lithium and gold.
The partnership is expected to improve operational efficiency, strengthen workforce development and support responsible mineral extraction and processing.
Promethean Resources and Renewvia Energy Corporation are also set to develop renewable energy solutions for mining and mineral-processing operations, with plans to extend reliable and affordable electricity to surrounding host communities.
The partnership will initially assess selected mining locations and develop scalable solar, battery-storage and mini-grid solutions aimed at supporting industrial productivity, energy access and local economic development.
In another partnership, Promethean Resources and Terra Industries have signed a Letter of Intent to explore technology-driven security solutions for mining and mineral-processing sites in Nigeria.
The proposed system would combine autonomous surveillance towers, unmanned aerial systems and Terra’s Artemis OS platform to enhance perimeter monitoring, threat detection and incident response.
Initial deployment is proposed for mining operations in Plateau and Kaduna states, with the possibility of extending the technology to other locations.
The partnerships collectively focus on three key priorities for Nigeria’s critical minerals sector: modernising mining operations, expanding reliable energy infrastructure and improving the security of mining assets and personnel.
They are also expected to strengthen connections between Nigeria’s mineral resources and international technology, expertise and commercial investment while promoting local processing, value addition and host-community development.
Promethean Resources is a Nigerian minerals extraction and processing company established in 2012 under its Managing Director, Demola Gbadegesin.
The company focuses on the exploration, exploitation and processing of tin and other solid minerals, with mining assets and joint ventures across Kaduna, Plateau and Bauchi states.
