Russian strike hits Kharkiv apartment block, injures 25

At least 25 people, including several children, were injured after a Russian strike hit an apartment building in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine, early Monday, Ukrainian authorities said.

The attack struck the Saltivskyi district at about 4am, damaging the lower floors of the residential building and leaving residents trapped inside.

Emergency crews rescued 32 people from the building and searched the damaged floors for anyone who might still be trapped.

The injured children were aged between three and 15. Two boys, aged eight and 12, were taken to hospital, while the other children were treated at the scene.

Several other victims received medical attention for physical injuries and acute stress reactions following the attack.

Rescue workers, police officers and medical teams continued clearing debris from the site on Monday as efforts to assess the extent of the damage continued.

Authorities said investigators were working to determine the type of weapon used in the strike.

The attack was part of a wider wave of Russian overnight strikes across Ukraine.

Four people were injured in Kyiv, while preliminary reports indicated that two others were wounded in Odesa.

Kharkiv, one of Ukraine’s largest cities and a major urban centre in the northeast, has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The latest strike has renewed concerns over the safety of civilians in the city as Russian attacks continue to target areas across Ukraine.
