A Nigerian man, Bosun Osagie, 25, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison in the United Kingdom for hacking a woman’s social media accounts, selling her intimate photographs and blackmailing her.
Osagie was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to computer hacking and blackmail, according to a statement issued by Merseyside Police on Tuesday.
The police said Osagie hacked the victim’s Snapchat and X accounts in Wirral and used her photographs to create fake social media profiles.
The fraudulent accounts were allegedly used to advertise the woman as a sex worker, while her intimate images were sold online without her consent.
“It was further reported that the fake accounts were used to solicit her as a sex worker and her images were being sold online and she was subsequently blackmailed,” the police statement said.
Osagie, who lives on Hartslock Drive in Bexley, London, was arrested and charged after the victim reported the incident in February 2023.
Following an extensive investigation, he subsequently admitted the offences in court.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order barring Osagie from contacting the victim.
