Trump Throws Weight Behind Netanyahu Ahead of Israeli Election

US President Donald Trump has declared his “complete and total” support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 election, as the longtime leader seeks another term in office.

Trump announced his endorsement on Sunday through his Truth Social platform, describing Netanyahu as his preferred candidate for re-election.

“Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel. BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump wrote.

Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, swiftly acknowledged the endorsement, thanking the US president for his support and cooperation.

“Thank you, President Trump, for your tremendous support and for our work together. Together we will complete the mission!” Netanyahu wrote on X.

In his endorsement, Trump described Netanyahu as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and praised him as an ally in the ongoing war against Iran, which began in late February with a major bombing campaign.

The conflict has continued as Tehran retaliates, including through restrictions on global energy supplies via the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for international oil shipments.

Trump argued that Netanyahu’s continued leadership was important to the United States’ efforts to confront what he described as a threat posed by Iran’s Islamic regime.

According to the US president, Washington could be left to confront the threat alone if Israel elected a different leader.

“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump said.

He also referred to Iran’s longstanding anti-Israel and anti-American rhetoric while defending his support for Netanyahu.

“This is the kind of Partner that the United States of America is demanding of Israel, a Country for which it has done so much,” he added.

Trump’s endorsement comes as Netanyahu seeks a fresh mandate amid the continuing conflict with Iran and heightened regional security concerns.
