Chinese authorities have deployed emergency rescue teams after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Tibet, triggering panic among residents and damaging homes in communities near the epicentre.
Surveillance footage showed people rushing out of buildings as the tremors shook the area, while emergency personnel mobilised to assess the damage and search for possible victims.
The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at 32.40 degrees north latitude and 93.79 degrees east longitude.
Following the tremor, the China Earthquake Administration activated a Level-II emergency response, prompting the deployment of specialised rescue personnel and equipment to the affected area.
The Nagqu Battalion of the Lhasa Fire and Rescue Mobile Detachment dispatched an advance team of seven firefighters equipped with life-detection devices and specialist rescue tools.
Footage showed emergency workers preparing for deployment, with rescue vehicles travelling towards the affected communities to assess the situation and support possible search-and-rescue operations.
Local authorities confirmed that casualties had been reported, although an official death toll was not immediately available. At least two people were injured in a village near the epicentre, while cracks were discovered in several houses in surrounding communities.
Emergency officials were inspecting villages close to the epicentre to establish the extent of structural damage and determine whether additional residents had been injured or trapped.
The deployment of rescue teams and activation of the emergency response underscored authorities’ efforts to assess the impact of the earthquake and provide assistance to affected communities.
Further information on casualties and the overall scale of damage was awaited as assessment and rescue operations continued.
