Dangote Refinery Partner MRS Slashes Petrol Pump Price in Abuja

MRS, a filling station linked to Dangote Refinery, has reduced its pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Abuja and surrounding areas, following recent adjustments in refinery pricing.

A market survey conducted on Friday revealed that the retail outlet has lowered its petrol price to ₦1,241 per litre from ₦1,317 per litre.

This represents a reduction of ₦76 per litre, or about 5.77 percent.

The price cut comes just days after Dangote Refinery reportedly reduced its gantry price by ₦75 per litre, following a decline in global crude oil prices to below $80 per barrel.

Despite the adjustment by MRS, several other fuel marketers including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), Ranoil, AA Rano, and Empire Energy have yet to reflect similar price reductions at their filling stations in Abuja.

The disparity in pump prices has continued to draw public attention, with consumers expressing concern over the slow response of some petroleum marketers to changes in upstream pricing.

Industry observers note that while refinery and depot price reductions often influence retail pricing, the pace of adjustment can vary across different marketers due to logistics, stock levels, and operational considerations.

As of Friday, consumers in Abuja are still paying varying prices depending on the filling station, despite the recent drop in crude oil benchmarks and refinery gantry prices.
