Egypt Calls for Negotiated Settlement as Saudi Arabia Faces Intensifying Houthi Attacks

Egypt has called for renewed diplomatic efforts to end the escalating conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels, urging all parties to explore political solutions amid intensifying attacks and growing humanitarian concerns.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the appeal on Thursday while reaffirming Cairo’s solidarity with Riyadh following a series of attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis against Saudi territory.

Abdelatty stressed the need to pursue diplomatic avenues that would secure the withdrawal of forces from territories recently seized during the renewed fighting.

He said all options should be explored to achieve a political settlement capable of addressing the territorial disputes and restoring stability.

Saudi Arabia, which intervened in Yemen’s civil war in support of the internationally recognised government, has faced near-daily Houthi attacks this month. The strikes have included an attack on Riyadh’s airport, described as the kingdom’s deadliest in years.

The latest escalation followed a major Houthi offensive in September, during which the rebels seized territory previously held by Yemeni government forces along the Red Sea coast.

The offensive came after the collapse in July of a truce that had helped contain hostilities in the country’s protracted civil war.

The Houthis have also announced a maritime blockade targeting Saudi Arabia and launched attacks on its vessels, territory and oil facilities, raising concerns over regional security and the potential disruption of energy supplies.

Saudi Arabia has responded with repeated air strikes against areas under Houthi control, which cover large parts of Yemen, one of the region’s poorest countries.

The renewed fighting has worsened the humanitarian situation, with more than 250,000 people internally displaced by the conflict.

Egypt’s intervention highlights growing diplomatic concerns over the widening confrontation and its implications for regional stability, maritime security and global energy markets.

While Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s support for Saudi Arabia, his call for a political settlement underscored the need for diplomatic engagement to halt the fighting and prevent further deterioration of the crisis.
