Kvng David Blends Nigerian Musical Roots With UK Sounds in New Single ‘Holy’

UK-based Nigerian musician Alexander David, popularly known as Kvng David, is exploring the intersection of African musical traditions and contemporary global sounds with his latest collaborative single, Holy, featuring U’Chims.

The release highlights the singer’s efforts to draw on his Nigerian musical heritage while developing a sound that appeals to audiences across cultural boundaries.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Kvng David developed his musical skills under veteran music director Frank Harrison-Uke, also known as AmEE, in Lagos before relocating to the United Kingdom.

His training covered vocal performance, ensemble arrangement and live instrumentation, including drums, keyboards and acoustic guitar. The experience has influenced his approach to songwriting, performance and musical arrangement.

These influences are evident in Holy, which combines organic percussion, layered harmonies and complementary vocal performances to create an atmosphere centred on worship and spiritual expression.

The collaboration sees Kvng David’s grounded mid-range vocals complement the higher, more agile delivery of U’Chims. Their exchange of vocal phrases draws on the call-and-response tradition associated with African choral music, allowing both performers to contribute distinct qualities to the song.

As the track progresses, layered backing vocals enrich the arrangement, building a congregational atmosphere while the percussion and bassline sustain its rhythmic momentum.

Kvng David’s experience as a multi-instrumentalist also informs the song’s structure, with the arrangement giving prominence to the interaction between the vocals and accompanying instrumentation rather than relying solely on electronic production.

Beyond the recording studio, the musician has continued to explore opportunities within the UK’s multicultural creative scene. His appearance at Manchester’s Chuck Art Gallery during the Common Ground 1:14 event demonstrated his engagement with cultural spaces that bring different artistic influences together.

Despite its strengths, Holy leaves room for further production refinement. A broader stereo image, more pronounced separation of backing harmonies and greater definition in the low-frequency range could improve the track’s depth and enhance its impact on larger sound systems.

Nevertheless, the single offers an insight into Kvng David’s musical direction, combining his Nigerian background, formal musical development and UK-based creative experience.

With Holy, the singer continues to explore how African musical traditions can inform contemporary worship music while connecting with listeners across geographical and cultural boundaries.
