A Welsh-Nigerian man described in court as a significant danger to women in Wales and England has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of rape and two sexual assaults.
Olukanyinsola Odebode, 30, of Gainsborough Road, Cefn Golau, Tredegar, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court following offences committed between June 2024 and September 2025. Gwent Police have released his custody photograph following the conclusion of the case.
A jury found Odebode guilty of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration. The court heard that he raped one woman before sexually assaulting another while he was on bail.
Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode had humiliated and degraded his victims and had recorded some of the sexual activity. He said the consequences for the women had been profound and described the defendant as a danger to females in Wales and England.
Odebode had denied the allegations during his trial. His barrister, Matthew Murphy, asked the court to consider that his client had no previous convictions and was described as highly educated.
However, Judge Huw Rees said the impact of the offending on the victims had been profound. In relation to the first victim, the judge said Odebode had threatened to ruin her life, leaving her frightened. The court also heard that she pleaded for him to stop and became distressed.
The judge said a probation report had identified Odebode’s lack of insight into his offending and warned that he posed a significant risk to members of the public.
The sentence reflected the seriousness and separate nature of the offences. Odebode received five years in prison for rape, followed by a consecutive three year sentence for assault by penetration. He was then given a further consecutive 12 month sentence for the offence involving the second victim.
That resulted in a total custodial term of nine years.
The court also imposed a further three years on extended licence as part of measures intended to protect the public after his release, bringing the overall sentence to 12 years.
Odebode will be required to serve two thirds of the nine year custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
