Ukrainian authorities have released footage they say shows a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone pursuing and attacking a civilian in the southern city of Kherson, highlighting growing concerns over the use of explosive drones against non-combatants near the front lines.
The video, published by Ukraine’s National Police, shows a man dressed in dark clothing running through a marketplace and repeatedly taking cover behind a parked vehicle as the remotely operated drone follows him. Moments later, the drone detonates its explosive payload near the civilian.
According to Ukrainian police, the victim, a 52-year-old man, survived the attack but sustained injuries and suffered a concussion. He was reportedly treated following the incident.
Ukrainian officials say FPV drones, originally developed for precision strikes on military targets, are increasingly being used in attacks against civilians in areas close to active combat zones.
Kherson, located in southern Ukraine, has remained under frequent shelling and drone attacks since Ukrainian forces retook the city from Russian troops in late 2022. Authorities say the continued use of drones poses a significant threat to residents living in frontline communities.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of civilians in conflict-affected regions, as Ukrainian officials continue to accuse Russian forces of targeting populated areas using a combination of artillery, missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Russia has not publicly commented on the specific incident or the allegations made by Ukrainian authorities. Independent verification of the video and the circumstances surrounding the attack has not been confirmed.
