Six Killed, Seven Injured as Five-Storey Building Collapses in Cairo

At least six people, including three children, have died after a five-storey building collapsed in Cairo, the Egyptian capital.

Seven other people were reportedly injured and taken to hospital for treatment, according to local media reports.

Emergency responders continued searching through the rubble on Wednesday for survivors who might still be trapped beneath the debris.

Authorities have evacuated residents from neighbouring buildings as a precaution against further collapses. Temporary steel supports have also been installed to reinforce the structures and protect occupants.

The governorate said legal proceedings had commenced, while an investigation was underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Building collapses remain a recurring problem in Egypt, where poor construction practices, inadequate maintenance and weak enforcement of building regulations have contributed to safety concerns in residential areas.

Authorities have introduced measures to tackle illegal construction and relocate residents from buildings considered at risk of collapse.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about building safety and the need for stricter enforcement of construction standards to prevent further loss of life.
