Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit Egypt in the coming days for talks with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, marking his first state visit to the country in a decade.
During the visit, Xi and Sisi are expected to discuss ways to deepen the strategic partnership between China and Egypt across a range of areas of mutual interest.
The two leaders will also exchange views on pressing regional and international issues, as Cairo and Beijing seek to further strengthen their longstanding diplomatic and economic ties.
The visit comes as Egypt and China commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations, established in May 1956. The relationship was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Sisi’s first official visit to China in December 2014.
Since then, both countries have expanded cooperation in several sectors, particularly trade, investment, infrastructure and defence.
Economic ties have continued to grow, with Egyptian companies signing 17 export contracts worth approximately $168 million with Chinese buyers last month. The deals cover agricultural products, textiles, minerals and engineering goods.
Defence cooperation has also gained momentum, with Egypt and China conducting the joint air exercise, Eagles of Civilization 2026, at Egyptian air bases earlier this month.
Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade said bilateral trade reached about $19.52 billion in 2025, describing China as one of Egypt’s largest trading partners.
