Yemen’s military has held a mass funeral for 75 young recruits killed in a Houthi missile strike on a training camp in Shabwa province, as authorities vowed to strengthen security and bring those responsible to justice.
The funeral took place on Wednesday at a football field in south-central Shabwa, where the attack occurred on Monday, leaving 75 recruits dead and about 200 others wounded.
The victims, aged between 18 and 20, were reportedly lining up for a training session at the al-Alam camp when the missile struck.
Senior government and military officials attended the burial ceremony, while soldiers and security personnel carried the coffins of the deceased recruits.
Following the funeral, Shabwa’s governor pledged to intensify efforts to protect the province and pursue those responsible for the attack.
The governor said the recruits were undergoing training to provide security in Shabwa and were not being prepared for frontline combat operations.
The attack has raised fresh concerns over the security of military training facilities and the vulnerability of young recruits amid Yemen’s prolonged conflict.
