At least 17 people, including three children, were killed and 18 others injured after Russian guided aerial bombs struck residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia, southern Ukraine, on Saturday, October 10, Ukrainian officials said.
Emergency workers searched damaged apartment buildings, cleared rubble and helped survivors escape as smoke billowed over the city. Several cars were mangled in the streets, while homes sustained extensive damage and ambulances rushed the wounded to hospitals.
The attack came amid an intensification of Russian strikes across Ukraine, which have killed more than 60 people in four days.
Missiles also struck Kyiv on Saturday, injuring four people, according to the capital’s mayor.
The latest bombardment followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a deal to buy Russian diesel, a move Kyiv warned could provide Moscow with additional funds to sustain its war effort.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of taking advantage of any easing of economic pressure to continue its attacks on the country.
More than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion, the conflict remains unresolved, with both sides locked in a prolonged war and little movement along the front line.
