2027: TNCI Backs Tinubu’s Re-election, Commends Uzodimma’s Political Mobilisation

The Tinubu National Continuity Initiative (TNCI) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for re-election in 2027, while commending Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for his political coordination and mobilisation efforts in support of the administration.

The group also called for national unity, economic stability and constructive engagement with government policies, urging political leaders to prioritise citizens’ welfare over personal confrontations and partisan rivalries.

TNCI made its position known at a press conference in Ibadan over the weekend, according to a communique signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi, and National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Babajide Alofe.

Operating under the motto, “One People. One Nation. One Future,” the organisation said Nigeria’s development depended on sustained engagement with economic policies, institutional performance, national cohesion and the welfare of citizens.

It said the Federal Government’s economic reforms should be assessed based on evidence, measurable outcomes and implementation challenges, noting that fiscal stability, investment, infrastructure, employment, security, purchasing power and the rising cost of living remained critical concerns.

The group maintained that Nigerians deserved credible information on the objectives and achievements of government policies, as well as areas requiring improvement. It added that democratic governance should accommodate both recognition of measurable achievements and constructive criticism.

TNCI specifically commended Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, for his support for Tinubu, political mobilisation and engagements with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

It also acknowledged the governor’s role in promoting intergovernmental relations and facilitating discussions among governors on national governance, economic reforms and public policy.

The organisation urged Uzodimma to sustain the engagements and encourage informed public debate and cooperation among political stakeholders.

On Senate President Godswill Akpabio, TNCI called for restraint, institutional maturity and respect for the political ambitions of elected officials.

It said reported remarks attributed to Akpabio concerning governors seeking Senate seats and the availability of the Senate presidency warranted scrutiny if they accurately reflected his statements and the context in which they were made.

According to the group, public political gatherings should not become platforms for comments that could be interpreted as dismissing the aspirations of other elected officials.

It stressed that the Senate presidency was a constitutional office and not the personal property of its occupant, adding that the position must remain subject to constitutional procedures and the decisions of elected representatives.

TNCI urged Akpabio to ensure that his public statements reflected the dignity of his office and encouraged substantive discussions on national development.

The organisation also called for greater clarity regarding the political activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

While acknowledging that cooperation across party lines was not inherently contradictory, it said public officials who supported an administration while maintaining independent political structures should clearly explain their objectives.

The group cautioned against the use, or perceived use, of political coalitions to undermine the participation and legitimate interests of other stakeholders.

It maintained that political alliances should be transparent, accountable and consistent with democratic principles, adding that the purpose, structure and political objectives of Wike’s coalition should be clearly communicated to the public.

TNCI further argued that political influence came with responsibility and that public figures should welcome legitimate scrutiny of their positions.

The organisation said Uzodimma, Akpabio and Wike should be assessed against the same standards of transparency, constitutional propriety, professionalism and public service, irrespective of their political affiliations.

It added that no public office should be treated as a personal entitlement and that political alliances should be explained honestly, with leaders judged by their conduct, performance and respect for democratic institutions.

The group called on Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to place national interest, peaceful coexistence and responsible democratic participation above partisan divisions.

It also urged political leaders, professionals, community stakeholders, public institutions and citizens to engage in national affairs with mutual respect and a commitment to evidence-based discussions.

TNCI said Nigerians could hold different political opinions while sharing common aspirations for national stability, economic opportunities, accountable governance and a better future for younger generations.

The organisation concluded by calling on Nigerians and the international community to support the Tinubu administration, expressing hope that its policies would improve the lives of ordinary citizens and strengthen Nigeria’s position in Africa and the wider international community.
