VeryDarkMan Offers to Join Search for Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren

Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has publicly offered to assist in efforts to locate and rescue schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State.

In recent online videos and posts, VDM said he is willing to personally join or support volunteer search efforts in affected communities, including forest areas believed to be linked to the kidnappers. His comments have sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians praising his concern while others warned that civilians should not involve themselves directly in security operations.

The activist also called on government authorities to intensify rescue operations and provide clearer updates on the progress being made to secure the release of the victims.

The Oyo abduction incident, which occurred in May 2026, involved armed attackers who kidnapped pupils and teachers from schools in parts of the state. Security agencies have since launched ongoing search-and-rescue operations, with officials repeatedly assuring the public that efforts are continuing.

Authorities have not confirmed any role for civilians in the operation, and security experts continue to caution against independent involvement in active rescue missions due to safety risks.

As the situation develops, families of the abducted victims continue to await updates, while public pressure mounts on the government to ensure a swift and safe rescue.
