Brazil Police Arrest Three After Fatal Bungee Jumping Accident

Police in Brazil have arrested three bungee jumping operators following the death of a young woman who fell from a bridge after staff allegedly failed to attach her safety rope.

The victim, a 21-year-old woman identified in local reports, died during a rope-jumping activity at an abandoned bridge in Limeira, SĂ£o Paulo state, on June 13. Investigators say she was launched from a height of about 40 metres without being properly secured to the elastic cord.

Authorities described the incident as a serious safety failure and have opened a criminal investigation into possible homicide charges. Witness accounts and early findings suggest that the operators did not confirm whether the safety equipment was properly attached before the jump.

Police confirmed that three men involved in the operation have been detained as the investigation continues. Officials say the activity was carried out without proper authorisation and safety oversight.

The case has sparked public outrage in Brazil, raising concerns about regulation and safety standards in extreme sports. Authorities have pledged a full inquiry to determine how the fatal error occurred and whether negligence played a role.
