Political parties in Morocco have intensified their campaigns ahead of the September 23 legislative elections, as they seek to win support from voters amid concerns over the cost of living, unemployment and public services.
Candidates of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) were in Rabat on September 14 as part of their campaign, engaging directly with residents ahead of the vote.
Among those supporting the campaign was Faouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and a member of PAM, alongside Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, and other party candidates.
Addressing concerns over living costs, Lekjaa acknowledged that many Moroccans are facing rising expenses.
“We want to use all legal means to bring living standards back to a normal level, as they were before,” he said.
Lekjaa had initially been expected to contest a parliamentary seat in his home region of Berkane but later decided not to run. He has instead been campaigning for PAM candidates and supporting the party’s efforts to mobilise voters.
The September 23 election will be the first legislative poll since protests involving young Moroccans erupted in the autumn of 2025, bringing issues including employment opportunities, public services and living costs into sharper focus.
The election is also taking place as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, adding to the political significance of the country’s development and infrastructure agenda.
With parties stepping up their outreach, young voters are expected to remain an important constituency as political groups seek to address concerns over unemployment, living standards and the quality of public services.
