Nigeria has evacuated another 105 distressed nationals from South Africa following reported xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks against Africans in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, said the returnees, comprising 82 adults and 23 children, arrived in Lagos aboard South African Airways flight SA060 on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at about 8:30pm.
The ministry said tickets for 100 of the returnees were funded from a $265,854 donation by the Redeemed Christian Church of God for the evacuation of 500 distressed Nigerians from South Africa.
The remaining five returnees were evacuated with funding provided by a private Nigerian donor.
According to the ministry, Nigeria’s diplomatic mission is continuing consultations with the RCCG leadership in South Africa, philanthropic organisations and individuals to facilitate the return of other distressed Nigerians.
It said some Nigerians were currently undergoing preliminary clearance with the Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg and relevant South African authorities and would be evacuated once the process was completed.
The latest exercise is the 13th consular evacuation from South Africa since the programme began on June 10, 2026.
The ministry said the latest evacuation brings to 1,821the total number of Nigerian nationals evacuated from South Africa since the exercise commenced.
