Man jailed for rape in UK after removing condom during meet with sex worker

A 46-year-old man from Stockport, United Kingdom, has been jailed for five years for raping a sex worker after deliberately removing a condom during a sexual encounter without her knowledge or consent.

Eisen Vir Raganit, of Westwood Road, Stockport, was sentenced at York Crown Court on Tuesday after being found guilty following a trial in August. He was also ordered to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

The incident happened in October 2024 after Raganit booked to meet the woman at her home in North Yorkshire through her website.

Police said the website clearly stated that clients were required to wear condoms. The woman also made the condition clear before any sexual activity began, telling Raganit that she would only consent to intercourse if protection was used.

During the encounter, however, he deliberately removed the condom and continued having sex without telling her.

The woman immediately confronted him and ordered him to leave before reporting the incident to police.

An examination of Raganit’s mobile phone later uncovered material that became significant evidence in the case. Investigators found videos showing non consensual condom removal, commonly known as stealthing. Some of the videos had reportedly been watched shortly before the offence.

Raganit denied the allegation during the police investigation and pleaded not guilty at trial. The jury, however, returned a unanimous guilty verdict.

In her victim personal statement, the woman described being left extremely upset and nervous about meeting new clients after the attack.

She said she had initially been uncertain about reporting the incident and questioned whether what happened amounted to a sexual offence, but later said she was glad she had gone to police.

The case comes amid wider attention on stealthing and the issue of consent. In England and Wales, removing a condom without consent can amount to rape where the victim agreed to sex only on the condition that a condom was used.

North Yorkshire Police said the woman’s occupation should never prevent victims from reporting sexual offences.

Police staff investigator Lorraine Whipp praised her courage and said everyone had the right to have their boundaries respected and to seek justice when those boundaries were violated.
