Rapper Nicki Minaj has pledged lasting support for US President Donald Trump, making a high-profile appearance at a Republican campaign rally in Michigan as the party mobilises voters ahead of the November midterm elections.
The Trinidadian-born artist joined Trump on stage at a rally in Port Huron on Sunday, October 25, after travelling aboard Air Force One, declaring her support for the president before an audience of Republican supporters.
“We love Trump,” Minaj told the crowd, promising to stand by him “forever”.
Her appearance added celebrity appeal to the Republican campaign and underscored her growing public association with Trump, a striking development given her previous criticism of his administration’s immigration policies.
In 2020, Minaj had spoken out against the administration’s strict immigration measures, particularly the separation of children from their parents at the US-Mexico border.
In recent years, however, the rapper has increasingly appeared at events linked to Trump’s presidency, signalling a shift in her public political engagement.
The Michigan rally also provided a platform for Trump to intensify his attacks on Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for the US Senate.
The president questioned El-Sayed’s loyalty to the United States, allegations the former public health official has repeatedly rejected.
Trump’s remarks formed part of the broader Republican campaign effort ahead of the midterm elections, which will test the party’s political strength and influence in Congress.
Minaj’s endorsement could attract additional attention to the Republican campaign, particularly among her large fan base, although the extent to which her support will influence voters remains uncertain.
A video shared by White House communications director Steven Cheung also showed the rapper joking about becoming the administration’s press secretary, adding a lighter moment to her appearance.
Her endorsement marks another prominent celebrity intervention in an increasingly polarised American political landscape, where public figures have become influential participants in campaign events and debates over the country’s political direction.
