The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 governorship election, securing a second term in office.
Adeleke defeated his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, in the election held across the state on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
According to the final results announced by INEC, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 444,815 votes. The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 local governments.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, announced the final results after the completion of collation from all 30 local government areas.
The election was conducted across the state’s 3,763 polling units, with voters turning out to decide who would govern the state for the next four years.
The contest was largely a two-horse race between Adeleke and Oyebamiji, with both candidates recording victories in different parts of the state during the collation of results.
Results emerging from wards and polling units throughout the collation process indicated a closely fought contest, although Adeleke maintained his lead as the exercise progressed.
The election followed weeks of intense campaigns, political realignments and heightened security preparations, with the major contenders calling on their supporters to remain peaceful and respect the electoral process.
With the declaration, Adeleke is set to continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term, subject to any legal challenge that may arise from the outcome.
His victory brings to an end the electoral phase of one of the most closely watched governorship contests in Osun State in recent years.
