Amorim’s AC Milan Return Cuts Manchester United Compensation Bill

Manchester United are set to receive a welcome financial boost after former manager Ruben Amorim agreed to become the new head coach of AC Milan.

The Portuguese coach, who was dismissed by United in January following a difficult spell at Old Trafford, has accepted a two year deal with the Italian giants, with an option to extend for a third season.

His appointment at the San Siro means United will no longer be responsible for paying the full compensation package agreed when he left the club.

Reports indicate that Amorim and his coaching staff were due to receive around £16.7 million as part of their severance agreement. However, his return to management significantly reduces that financial burden, offering some relief to United as the club continues efforts to improve its financial position.

Amorim arrives at Milan during a period of major change. The Rossoneri endured a disappointing campaign, finishing fifth in Serie A and missing out on qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The club has since embarked on a sweeping restructuring process aimed at restoring its status among Europe’s elite.

Italian media reports say Milan has already overseen significant changes behind the scenes, with several senior figures leaving following the club’s underwhelming season. The new leadership is expected to give Amorim considerable influence as he reshapes the squad and football operations.

One of his first moves could be to recruit fellow Portuguese Pedro Ferreira, currently Nottingham Forest’s head of recruitment, as part of a wider overhaul of the club’s sporting structure.

Amorim built his reputation at Sporting CP, where he guided the Lisbon club to league titles and earned praise for his progressive style of play. Although his time at Manchester United failed to deliver the expected results, many observers believe the 41 year old remains one of Europe’s most promising young coaches.

The development comes as Manchester United prepare for a new era under manager Michael Carrick. The club is also expected to benefit financially from Amazon’s upcoming All or Nothing documentary series, which will follow United throughout next season. According to British media reports, the agreement is believed to be the most lucrative access deal ever signed for the popular football documentary franchise.

With Amorim returning to the dugout and new commercial revenue on the horizon, United have received a timely boost both on and off the pitch as preparations continue for the new campaign.
