A coroner is set to investigate the death of an Australian law student who died after falling from the Victoria Embankment in central London, as his family seeks answers about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Fletcher Beasley, 21, from Brisbane, died in the early hours of June 25 after falling from a height at the popular riverside promenade along the River Thames.
According to the London Ambulance Service, emergency responders attended the scene following reports of the incident, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.
Beasley had reportedly been spending time with his girlfriend and friends before the incident.
A fourth-year Business and Law student at the Queensland University of Technology, Beasley also worked as a research assistant at tax law firm West Garbutt, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In a statement, his parents, Katrina and Matt Beasley, described him as a kind, generous and compassionate young man whose life touched many people.
“Our adored son Fletcher was our much-loved brother, grandson, partner, friend and colleague, who is deeply loved and cherished by all who knew him,” the family said.
They described him as funny, loyal and curious, adding that he enjoyed sport, running, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
The family said Beasley’s father had travelled to the United Kingdom to bring his body home to Australia.
A fundraising campaign has also been launched in Fletcher’s memory to assist with the ongoing investigation into his death, support the family’s efforts to repatriate his remains and provide assistance to friends who were with him in London at the time.
“The fund will support the ongoing investigation into Fletcher’s death and support the Beasley family and close friends as they rebuild their lives and bring Fletcher home,” the family said.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the incident. A coroner’s investigation is expected to determine the cause and circumstances of Beasley’s death.
