Healthcare workers at an Ebola treatment centre in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have downed tools, going on strike over unpaid salaries and inadequate safety conditions, as the country continues to battle an active Ebola outbreak.
Months of Unpaid Wages, Workers Say
Some of the striking workers say they have gone months without receiving payment for their services, despite continuing to work on the frontlines of the outbreak response.
The strike raises fresh concerns over the capacity of health authorities to sustain the fight against Ebola, a highly infectious and often fatal disease, at a time when frontline workers say their welfare and safety have been neglected.
