A 45-year-old man in Milton Keynes has been sentenced to eight years in prison for raping a woman in her own home after offering to help her get back following a night out.
Evans Nyarko, of Tintagel Court, Fishermead, was convicted of raping a woman aged in her fifties after a six-day trial at Aylesbury Crown Court.
According to Thames Valley Police, the victim had been out with friends and acquaintances in the Conniburrow area of Milton Keynes on the evening of August 12, 2024.
Police said Nyarko, who was known to the woman, offered to accompany her home by taxi at the end of the evening.
After arriving at her house, the woman began feeling unwell and struggled to walk. Nyarko helped her into the property before following her into the downstairs toilet, where he raped her, police said.
A jury unanimously found Nyarko guilty of one count of rape of a woman over 16.
Detective Constable Lyndsay Gofton said the case involved an abuse of trust, alleging that Nyarko exploited the victim after she had relied on him to help her get home safely.
“The victim welcomed Nyarko’s assistance because he was known to her. Instead of ensuring that she was safe, he exploited her and committed a serious sexual offence,” Gofton said.
Police said Nyarko denied the offence throughout the investigation, resulting in the victim having to give evidence during the trial.
Gofton commended the victim for her courage throughout the investigation and court proceedings, saying her decision to report the incident and support the prosecution had contributed to Nyarko being brought to justice.
“Thames Valley Police is committed to investigating all reports of sexual offences thoroughly and supporting victims throughout the criminal justice process,” she said.
The force added that the conviction demonstrated its commitment to pursuing offenders and holding them accountable for sexual offences.
