NDLEA Destroys 4.6 Tonnes of Suspected Cannabis in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State has destroyed two suspected cannabis plantations with an estimated yield of 4,628.9kg, while arresting 10 suspected drug traffickers in separate operations.

According to the Edo State NDLEA Commander, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, the plantations were discovered at Ugboku, Igbanke Forest, in Orhionmwon LGA, and were spread across about 1.85 hectares. One suspect, a 40-year-old man, was arrested in connection with one of the farms. NDLEA operatives also recovered 12.4kg of processed suspected cannabis from the second plantation.

In another operation at Oluku and Abuja Quarters in Benin City, the agency arrested 10 male suspects. One 28-year-old suspect was found with 25.857kg of suspected cannabis and 93g of methamphetamine. The other suspects, who were reportedly from Nasarawa, Katsina, Kano and Benue states, were arrested with substances including Loud, cannabis sativa, Swinol, Danabol, Tramadol, Diazepam and methamphetamine.

The NDLEA said all the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue ahead of prosecution. The operations form part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to dismantle illicit drug production and trafficking networks across Edo State.
