Pakistani Police Mistakenly Open Fire on Australian Family, Killing Father and Son

A tragic police shooting in Pakistan has left an Australian father and his son dead after officers mistakenly opened fire on their vehicle, believing they were armed robbery suspects.The incident occurred on Wednesday in Chakwal, located in Pakistan’s Punjab province, when members of the Punjab Police Elite Force allegedly misidentified the family’s rental car during an operation targeting armed criminals.

Authorities said 39-year-old Adeel Ahmed and his 11-year-old son, Aafan, were fatally shot during the incident. Nine-year-old Hania Ahmed sustained injuries, while her mother escaped unharmed.According to police, the family had attempted to drive away after being confronted by armed robbers. In the confusion that followed, an officer reportedly believed the suspects were escaping in the family’s vehicle and opened fire.The Punjab Police Crime Control Department admitted that the officer made an incorrect assessment of the situation, leading to the deaths of the father and son and injuries to Hania.

The officer involved has been taken into custody as investigations continue.Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as deeply disturbing and called for a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Pakistani authorities also confirmed that the robbery suspects linked to the incident were later killed in a separate gun battle with security personnel.The tragic mistake has sparked public outrage and renewed scrutiny of police operations and the use of force in the country.
