A violent clash in Ogute-Oke community, located in Estako East Local Government Area of Edo State, has left one person dead and seven houses destroyed following a disagreement reportedly linked to a woman. The incident occurred shortly after residents concluded celebrations for the community’s Olimi festival.

According to sources in the area, the crisis began during a gathering held after the burial of a prominent chief in the community. Tension reportedly arose when a man became upset after seeing another man dancing with a woman he had accompanied to the event.

What started as an argument allegedly escalated into violence, with one of the men attacking the other with a cutlass. The victim sustained severe injuries and later died.

The killing reportedly triggered unrest within the community, leading to the destruction of seven houses. Several residents were said to have fled the area amid fears of arrests and possible retaliatory attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, the Edo State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident. Efforts to reach the police spokesperson for comments were unsuccessful.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence and the destruction of property in the community.
