Taylor Farms Recalls Jalapeño Products Over Salmonella Concerns

US food producer Taylor Farms is recalling around 20 fresh food products containing jalapeño peppers following concerns over a salmonella outbreak.

The recall affects products sold in 26 US states through retailers including Walmart, Target and Whole Foods. Taylor Farms said it was not aware of any illnesses directly linked to its recalled products.

What caused the recall? The jalapeños were supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors, which had recalled its own fresh jalapeños over salmonella concerns. According to Taylor Farms, a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, was identified as the source of the outbreak.

The company said it has stopped sourcing from that farmer and will use alternative suppliers. Consumers who have recalled products are advised to discard them and seek a refund from the place of purchase.vProducts affected The recall includes items such as: Pico de gallo salsa Guacamole Burritos Spicy sandwiches Fresh sliced jalapeños Other dips and fresh products containing jalapeños Salmonella infection can cause diarrhoea, fever and stomach pain, with symptoms typically developing within 12 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food.

Taylor Farms already facing another food-safety issue The company is also recalling iceberg lettuce sourced from Mexico following a separate outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic infection. According to the report, more than 22,000 people had become ill across 45 US states as of 4 August.

Michigan health officials had also reported two deaths linked to that outbreak.Taylor Farms is one of the largest produce suppliers in the US, supplying major retailers and restaurant chains including Walmart, Costco, Target, Taco Bell and McDonald’s.
