Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralised 1,106 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State over the past year, while intercepting more than N300 million in illicit funds allegedly linked to the groups’ financiers.
The outgoing Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, disclosed this yesterday during his farewell address at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Abubakar said the military operations also resulted in the arrest of 758 logistics collaborators allegedly providing support to the insurgent groups.
He said troops recovered more than 475 assorted weapons and 24,409 rounds of ammunition of various calibres during the operations.
“Troops successfully recovered over 475 assorted weapons and 24,409 rounds of various calibre ammunition, while 295 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were discovered and safely detonated,” he said.
According to the commander, the gains were achieved through a combination of sustained kinetic operations and non-kinetic engagements aimed at weakening the insurgents’ operational capabilities and encouraging defections.
He said the strategy contributed to an increase in surrenders, with more than 969 JAS/ISWAP fighters and their family members laying down their arms during the period under review.
The theatre also recorded significant achievements in rescue operations, Abubakar said, adding that 638 civilians were rescued from terrorist enclaves.
He further recalled the successful rescue of all 46 students during an attempted abduction at the Federal Government Girls College, Monguno, among other operations.
The outgoing commander listed several senior insurgent figures reportedly neutralised during military operations, including Abu Bilal Al-Muniki, also known as Abu Mainok; Malam Jidda, Amir of Ngorgore/Malumti villages; Abu Modu; Modu Dogo; Munzir of Dogon Chukun; Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota; and Abul Kaka.
Abubakar attributed the operational gains to the commitment of troops and the cooperation of relevant stakeholders in the fight against insurgency.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the country and also thanked the Borno State Government for its support to Operation Hadin Kai.
