Trump Launches ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to Strengthen US AI Leadership

US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new federal task force, dubbed the “Super Intelligence Force”, to coordinate the government’s approach to artificial intelligence and maintain American leadership in the rapidly advancing technology.

Trump appointed Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to lead the initiative, which will bring together senior government officials to oversee the administration’s AI strategy.

Announcing the initiative on Sunday, Trump said the task force would coordinate the Federal Government’s engagement with AI companies, consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations and critical infrastructure providers.

“The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

The task force will include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Undersecretary for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The group will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

The administration has given the task force 120 days to assess the risks and opportunities associated with advanced AI and recommend the Federal Government’s role in managing the technology.

Clayton has argued that the United States should maintain its lead in AI development, warning that falling behind countries such as China could create additional risks for American national security and competitiveness.

“The risk of not being first is high,” Clayton said, stressing that maintaining US leadership could help the country address risks posed by technological advances and potential adversaries.

The task force is also expected to develop measures to address threats enabled by advanced AI while seeking to avoid excessive regulation that could slow innovation and competition.

The announcement followed a meeting between Trump and executives of major AI companies at the White House, where technology firms agreed to a voluntary framework covering safety measures and oversight of the technology.

The creation of the Super Intelligence Force marks another major step by the Trump administration to place AI at the centre of US economic, technological and national security policy.
