Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Russia since the war began on Sunday, with Moscow reporting that hundreds of drones targeted the capital and other regions, killing at least six people.
The overnight strikes came as Ukrainian forces intensified attacks on Russian military and industrial targets. Ukraine’s military said it had hit a missile-fuel production facility in Russia’s Rostov region.
“The company manufactures solid rocket propellant for multiple launch rocket systems, as well as for a range of missile systems and airborne weapons,” the Ukrainian military said in a statement posted on Telegram.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air-defence forces had destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones overnight, describing the barrage as a major aerial assault.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said about 600 drones were detected heading towards the Russian capital, with roughly a third of them destroyed over the Moscow region.
Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said an 83-year-old man was killed after a Ukrainian drone struck a private home in the region.
Vorobyov also said a Ukrainian attack triggered a fire at a warehouse belonging to Russian retail giant Wildberries in the town of Podolsk. Images circulated by Russian media showed thick columns of black smoke rising from the site.
The attacks came as fighting continued along the front line, with both sides claiming battlefield gains.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had captured the village of Pershomarivka in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region and Kudiivka in the northeastern Kharkiv region, state news agency TASS reported.
The latest escalation comes amid continued Russian and Ukrainian strikes against military, energy and industrial infrastructure, more than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
