British Airways is set to resume flights to Tanzania after a 13-year absence, with the UK flag carrier announcing a new service linking London with Kilimanjaro.
The airline said on Thursday that it would operate three weekly flights from London Gatwick to Kilimanjaro International Airport, with the service continuing to Zanzibar.
The new route is scheduled to begin in late May 2027 and will mark British Airways’ return to Tanzania since it discontinued its Dar es Salaam-London service 13 years ago.
The airline said the new service would provide travellers with direct access to northern Tanzania’s major tourism destinations, including the Serengeti and Mount Kilimanjaro region.
Kilimanjaro International Airport serves as a gateway to some of Africa’s most renowned wildlife destinations, including the Serengeti National Park, which hosts the annual Great Migration involving millions of wildebeest, zebras and other animals.
British Airways also announced plans to increase the frequency of its London-Cape Town service, with additional flights scheduled to begin in March 2027.
Zanzibar, which will be served as part of the new Tanzania route, is known for its white-sand beaches, marine attractions and distinctive historical and cultural heritage.
The return to Tanzania comes as the country continues to attract international visitors to its wildlife reserves, coastal destinations and other tourism attractions.
British Airways said the new services would strengthen its connectivity between the UK and key destinations in East and Southern Africa.
