Davido Draws Global Attention to Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren at World Cup Concert

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has used his performance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to spotlight the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

During his performance on Wednesday night, the music star wore a custom-designed jacket featuring the names of the 39 abducted pupils and seven teachers. On the back of the jacket, he boldly inscribed the message: “Bring Them Home.”

Davido repeatedly displayed the jacket while performing his hit song Fall, using the global stage to draw attention to the ongoing captivity of the victims and the broader issue of insecurity affecting schoolchildren in Nigeria.

The singer has previously called on authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abductees, stressing that rising insecurity in the country must be urgently addressed.

Meanwhile, other Nigerian artists are also set to feature on the global World Cup stage. Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy is billed to perform at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Mexico City alongside Shakira, having collaborated with her on the official World Cup song Dia Dia.

Another Nigerian artiste, Rema, is also expected to perform at the opening ceremony in Los Angeles alongside international stars including Lisa and others.
