Multiple Suspects Remain at Large After Five Shot at Virginia State University

Five people have been injured, including one critically, following a shooting at Virginia State University in the United States, with police saying multiple suspects remain at large.

The incident happened around 1:28 a.m. local time on Saturday outside a university residence hall. All five victims suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to nearby hospitals. Four of them were reported to have injuries that were not life-threatening.

Chesterfield County Police said they believe more than one shooter was involved, but no arrests have been made. Authorities are continuing to review surveillance footage as they work to identify the suspects.

Police said one of the victims is a university student, while another is under the age of 18. None of the injured individuals is currently being treated as a suspect.

A temporary lockdown at the university has been lifted, although a significant police presence remains on campus as investigations continue.

Virginia State University, located about 20 miles south of Richmond, has roughly 5,000 students and is one of the United States’ historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The shooting occurred just days before the start of the new academic term, with students having returned to campus accommodation on Friday.
