The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted more than 1.3 million pills of tramadol and other opioids, alongside about 6,000kg of potent cannabis strains worth over N3.4 billion in a series of operations across the country.
Among the major breakthroughs was the seizure of 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing 603.75kg and valued at N1.81 billion, as well as the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker who allegedly impersonated a senior police officer to evade scrutiny at checkpoints.
NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Babafemi said NDLEA operatives arrested 49-year-old Innocent Ekpe along the Benin-Onitsha Expressway in Asaba, Delta State, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with 292.48kg of skunk concealed in his silver Toyota Sienna bus.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that Ekpe had allegedly been parading himself as Godwin Emeka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, using a forged police identification card to evade security checks while transporting illicit drugs across state lines.
He said an alleged accomplice, 39-year-old Nduka Joseph, was also arrested alongside Ekpe.
In another operation, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a location along Agbor Road in Benin City, Edo State, where they arrested 45-year-old Matthew Ossai.
Babafemi said Ossai allegedly used his auto-repair workshop as a cover for storing illicit drugs.
The operatives recovered 48kg of Canadian Loud, 152 grammes of methamphetamine and a metal box allegedly used to store the substances.
The NDLEA spokesman also disclosed that a 40-foot container shipped from Montreal, Canada, and delivered to Tin-Can Island Port, Lagos, on September 12, was placed under surveillance following intelligence received by the agency.
He said the container underwent a joint physical examination by NDLEA operatives, the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies on Wednesday, September 16.
The examination, according to him, led to the discovery of 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 603.75kg.
The illicit substance was allegedly concealed inside 31 black jumbo bags containing two Toyota Sienna vehicles loaded into the container.
Babafemi said the latest seizures and arrests formed part of the agency’s intensified operations against drug trafficking and illicit drug distribution across the country.
